Of all of the juried shows that I have had my artwork shown in these past few years, I am most excited about this show: ‘Innovations’ at the Dowd Gallery of SUNY Cortland in Cortland, NY (the show runs from January 18th – March 2nd, 2012). The work accepted in this show “represents innovations in concept, subject or media use” — which is one of my main objectives in creating any piece of art. Both of the pieces I submitted were accepted to the exhibition [pictured below] and I will be venturing up to SUNY Cortland’s Dowd Gallery to present an Artist Talk/Lecture and/or a Workshop for the students at SUNY Cortland sometime in the first week or two of February 2012. Please read the written statement that I submitted for ‘Innovations’ here.

The first work that has been accepted to ‘Innovations’ is a digital print intervention titled: Mapping the Probability of Archetypical Configurations of Elementary Particles in Thought-Space and will appear in Bowers Hall (the science building) on the campus of SUNY Cortland.

The other piece that was accepted is Transmeanderation Helix (Parts 1, 2 & 3) and will be installed in the Dowd Gallery. Here is Transmeanderation Helix as it appeared at the William King Museum in 2010:

Chi-Town, The Windy City

Good news! The artwork [pictured below] of David Mazure is heading out to Chicago this winter for ‘human: a national juried exhibition celebrating the human form’ at Gallery 180 of The Illinois Institute of Art-Chicago. The exhibition will be benefiting the Heartland Alliance. I am very excited about this exhibit, not only because my work was selected from over 300 entries and not only will this will be my first show in Chicago but, I will be exhibiting alongside a fellow cast of very talented and respected artists. The exhibition opens on Monday, January 16th, 2012 and closes on Thursday, March 1st, 2012. The opening reception (which I will unfortunately not be able to attend) will be on Friday, January 20th.

Siena Art Institute’s ‘Drawing Connections’

I am happy to announce that the work you see below will appear at the Siena Art Institute’s Grand Opening exhibition, titled ‘Drawing Connections’, which will open this September 24th, in Siena, Italy. So, if you happen to been in or around Siena toward the end of September or during the month of October I highly recommend that you pop in for a visit!

The exhibition’s theme is (as the title suggests) based on drawing. . . “bringing artists from all over the world together to celebrate the act of drawing on a postcard sized work. [They are] looking for original drawings or other artworks that celebrate the act of drawing (understanding that the act of drawing can also be celebrated in a variety of media outside of traditional drawing materials such as graphite and charcoal.”

Closer toward the opening of the exhibition there will be a downloadable catalog displaying all of the artists’ work that will appear in the exhibition. I will post a link as soon as the catalog is on-line.

LARAC’s Lapham Gallery

Good news! From July 13th – August 10th, 2012, I will be having a two-artist exhibition at LARAC’s Lapham Gallery (they just received a grant to redesign their website) in Glens Falls, NY in which I will be unveiling at least two, new, large-scale works. I will be sharing the gallery with Elizabeth Snipes (you can check out her website here). I will post an update with more detailed information as the opening date approaches.

LH Horton Jr. Gallery

From October 6th – November 3rd, 2011, Sacred Geometry (Face 1) [seen here] will be on display at the 2D/3D Figurative Works Exhibition at the LH Horton Gallery at the Delta Center for the Arts of San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton, CA. A complete list of exhibiting artists and examples of their work will be available in the upcoming weeks. I’ll keep you posted.

Teachin’ the Young’uns

In May, I had the pleasure of being a part of Young Authors Day at my niece’s grammar school, The Woodland School, in Warren, NJ. Once a year, the school invites children’s book illustrators and writers to come give instructional workshops and to talk about their experiences in creating books for children. I gave a little instructional workshop to three classes of fourth graders and a gymnasium filled with second graders. The one thing I learned from this experience is that teaching second and fourth graders is, by far, much more difficult than teaching college students!

Look closely at the blackboard for the masterpiece!

By using very simple geometric shapes, I had them compose a very intricate image. Some were very excited (and empowered) to see how easy it was to draw this way.
