Best in Show!!!
Posted by David | Filed under Events, Press, Shows
I just found out that I received the Best of Show award for the 25th International Juried Exhibition in Summit, NJ for my graphite drawing Supersymmetry Exists. . . just not here!!! (See previous post here). I was very excited to get accepted to this exhibition initially and now I am overjoyed that my piece was chosen Best in Show. I would like to thank the juror, Joan Young, for choosing my piece! Please feel free to come out for the exhibition’s opening reception on Friday, January 14th from 6-8pm.
Viewpoints

Although it is quite a long time away (June 1st – 25th, 2011), I was just notified that my wall painting, Supersymmetry Exists. . .just not here was accepted by Studio Montclair for inclusion into their annual juried exhibition, whose title this year is Viewpoints. I’m very excited about this show for two reasons: 1) this will be the first time one of my installations has been accepted into a juried show and 2) because it will be held at the Aljira: A Center for Contemporary Art (Aljira = Australian Aboriginal word for dreamtime) in Newark, NJ. Part of Aljira’s mission is “the promotion of art perceived as problematic by mainstream institutions.”
In other news, I am looking forward to posting some new artwork on this blog-site very soon. The semester is over and I want to get to work!

To help raise funds for ETSU’s (my alma mater) new Visiting Artist Program, they will be holding a Centennial Fundraiser & Silent Auction. It will be held from November 30th to December 10th in the Slocumb Galleries at ETSU. A reception will be held on Thursday, December 9th from 5 to 7:30 pm. I have donated one of my drawings from the Sacred Geometry series (pictured below). Please contact the Slocumb Galleries to purchase tickets for the event or to make a donation.

For those of you who cannot make it to the K.A.S. Gallery in Louisville, KY, before December 10th, for the “Without Color – Black & White Art” exhibit, you can view the entire exhibit online here, then, click on the Online Gallery link (in red on the right) and then select KAS Gallery Exhibit (third selection on the white bar).
If you’re looking for my piece, it is all the way at the end (I guess they saved the best for last!)
Upcoming Exhibition

Great news! For the second time, in as many attempts, I have been accepted to the 25th International Juried Exhibit at the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey in Summit, NJ. The last time I participated in this show was the 23rd International Juried Exhibit and I was very impressed with the amount of well-crafted and thought-provoking artwork on display — I was quite honored to be amongst them (and win an Honorable Mention for Jungian Whim!). I believe that the quality of this show is due both to the efforts of the Visual Arts Center itself and its ability to procure great jurors. This year’s juror is Joan Young, Associate Curator of Contemporary Art at the Guggenheim Museum (NYC). The piece that was accepted to this year’s exhibition is Supersymmetry Exists. . . just not here (pictured below):
